What is the State of Limitation limit fora crime?

2 and half years ago my son burglarized a place and tried to open the ATM machine but never got it opened. then he was caught and sentenced to secure for 7 months and payed over $2,000 in fines while he was in there. he was released and and terminated from probation. then recently they mentioned to him that he was never given restitution for the ATM machine damage so now we have to go to court, the guy say the ATM will cost 1,700 to buy a brand new one so my question: Is there a statue of limitation for that? can they still charge him for that??
