Help! Neighbour noise... and they are being reasonable!?

Most multi. family dwelling will not allow solid flooring in above units without lower units consent but if you just bought the place and they already had the ok from previous owner you can't say much about it, I'm sure that will be one of your first questions next time your looking at a place. Carpet adsorbs the sound vs. solid floors that create a place for sound to bounce off and echo through out. Popcorn/accoustic ceilings although ugly dramatically help dampen the sound, also insulation makes a mive difference and is usually not installed in between floor levels in these types of communities. Last but not least hols in the drywall only make things worse, for instance recessed lighting.
