Has anyone ever read a book or a short story that actually scared them?

I've already asked this question but, I thought I'd try it again because I didn't really get a good variety answers. I really want to read something that is actually scary and makes me think. Last time, people were telling me about stories that they'd read when they were kids and, that's not really what I'm looking for. I meant stories that are on a higher level and actually make you think about them long after you've finished reading them.I've already been told about Salem's Lot, The Hot Zone and, Jaws. Lately, I've read Haunted by Palahniuk, which had a lukewarm plot but really good short stories. A while ago, I read Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things which wasn't scary but definitely made me think. If you're familiar with Gaiman, I liked Closing Time and Bitter Grounds, which I'm still thinking about. But, they weren't terrifying or scary in any way. So, do you guys have any other stories that actually terrified you? Thanks! xD
