Does anyone call their children a name other than what is on their birth certificate.?

That is called a nickname. No, I always called my kids by their real name. I made them simple so people would be able to get it right. I know a lot of people who go by their nicknames or even shortened versions of their real name. Nicknames seemed to be popular in the 1940s.
