You & dad don't need to do things the same way, but you do need to agree on the ultimate goals -and- respect each other's decisions. So, when your stepson says 'Dad never lets me ... ', you can say, 'Well, I understand Dad's reasons for doing things that way. He is a different person than I am, but we both love you & want what's best for you. When you're with me, I'm comfortable with letting you do things this way, though, unless you show me that you aren't ready for it.'.
