Fire started in the burner of a electric stove! Need help!?

What you had was a grease fire. A large lid would've worked fine. Throwing water on a grease fire can sometimes just spread the grease out and cause a bigger fire. (As in grease and water don't mix). Pick up a box of baking soda and keep it in the cabinet right next to the stove. It's about 50 cents. I'd leave the burner out of the stove until tomorrow to give it plenty of time to dry. It should be ok.
